May 8, Browning Browning 1953 While in Hartford I showed the new gun to Graham Anthony of Colt's, and later he wrote a letter telling how much he liked the looks of the gun, and in this letter he called it the “Double-Automatic". The question of demonstrating the system of loading has come up, and we think it would be advantageous if the dealer in showing the gun could have dummy cartridges to demonstrate the loading feature. Now, most dealers do not have dummies and if we were to send each dealer a supply, it would be confusing = they would be lost or used up, and we are considering the possibility of putting in each gun carton two dummy cartridges. The question arises as to whether we should put them in the cartons in St. Louis, which would be expensive in most cases, or send a supply over to F. N. and have them put in there, or get F. N. to make them and put them in over there. I suggest that you take up this latter possibility with F. N. and see what kind of arrangement could be worked out. The dummy should be with a folded crimp, although that is not necessary, but they should be of a distinctive color like gray or cream color with the word "Dummy" printed lengthwise on each one. Will you let me know what you can work out in this respect? The sales department is strongly of the opinion that we should have a venti-~ lated rib model with the ventilated rib the same as on the present Automatics. This would be in addition to the type of rib which we have put on these guns so far. I think it would be well if you would have a couple of these barrels made up with such a rib; possibly they could be made on the same machines as the old barrels and sent over to me for a lookesee. Also, please let me know if there is any latitude in the specifications for the first 10,000 guns for including quantities of ventilated ribs in these first 10,000. This might entail holding over there some of the plain or present type rib barrels and supplanting them with ventilated ribs. It may be that some of the first 10,000 guns with the present type of rib could be made into ventilated rib gunS. We are anxious to know if anything can be worked out for the first 10,000. dh
