Show 3 - Q. Do you have any contact with GE? A. Directly -- no. My contact with GE is through Bud Wilson. Q. How do you know what your reserves are worth? A. We don't know. It's very hard to put a value on reserves. The best handle that you can have on any value is from our mineral sales backlog position which is made up of commitments to sell some of our future production. Otherwise, we know that our reserves are extremely valuable but it would be impossible to put any dollar value on them. Q. What about the labor situation in Australia? A. It's more difficult in the iron ore operations. That is partly attributable to the location of the iron ore in Western Australia, a region which is dry and desolate in contrast to Central Queensland which is subtropical and only about 100 miles from very attractive coastal areas. I'm interested that you have provided monetary incentives in these areas for people to buy plants in order to make their homes more attractive. How was that developed and whose idea was that? A. I'm not sure it was the idea of any particular individual. Many of us at Utah have had experience in remote areas and we had some ideas of what we wanted to accomplish in Australia. We have done our best to avoid a "company town" environment and have turned each community over to the local shire (county) for administration. Q. Are people who work there Australians? A. Yes. We only have one American in Australia now. This is by design of course. We have developed an excellent organization and I think that is a generally accepted opinion. Q. Do you go to Australia often? A. Ralph long goes about 4 times a year and I go about 3 or 4 times a year. We have |
