Show D-l.l 6-62 INTER-OFFICE CORRESPONDENCE Date: October 24, 1972 To: L. J. Hindery From: Charles E. McGraw Sub: UTAH PARTICIPATION IN THE BAY BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION Ref: I contacted Larry Johnson, who at the time of the construction of the bridge was one of the engineers for the State of California. From his records he advised me that Utah Construction Co. participated la the joint venture known as Bridge Builders, Inc. This organization was the successful contractor for the East Bay Piers, this section being from Yerba Buena Island to Oakland. The total amount of the contract was approximately $4,500,000 and the contract was awarded about May 1933. The members of the Bridge Builders Inc. were: W. A. Bechtel Co. Dravo Contracting Co. Kaiser Paving Co. Missouri Valley Bridge and Iron Co. Raymond Concrete Pile Co. Utah Construction Co. Warren Bros. Co. Dravo, Missouri Valley Bridge and Iron Co. and Raymond Concrete Pile Co. were the sponsors. The General Superintendent was Mr. Carl B. Jansen of the Dravo Co., who later became president and then chairman of the board of that company. Larry doesn't remember what particular part Utah played in this contract, except that he thought that they probably contributed some men. Additionally, it would be presumed that we provided consultation and advice in the general management of the joint venture as a participating partner. This information is believed to be reliable.
