Show J.M. & M. S. BROWNING OGDEN, CO. UTAH September 9, 1944 Mr. G.M. Baxter Pennsylvania Hotel New York, New York Dear Gordon, Thank you kindly for your letter of the Srd. Judging from the list of notables at the hearing, I would say that we are not being ignored, but on the other hand should feel quite flattered. I do not believe that it is possible for me to give you any further information. In fact, we have accumulated so much material over so long a time that it is difficult for one to remember it. You have probably put up the same question to Val who will doubtless give you everything he has on the subject. From what you say, officers in this war are not much different from those in World War I, and I suppose most all wars. You mention their belief that we should have a large staff at work, etc. I am reminded of the fun that J.M. and my father made of them in the last war in connection with "million dollar laboratories", ete. The War Department got the guns but saved millions on laboratories insofar as these guns were concerned, But why go into this. We just received a cable fromM. Joassart starting out: "leaving for home within two or three days and think my friends will follow soon", JI hope that you and Mr. Hume are feeling as well as M. Joassart must be. Sincerely, |
