Show Subject ¥.N.B. Improvements To Mi Bigelow From GrantF. Goddard Reference FebruaryPm 28 Date Mareh M. Browning and March 1, 3 1951 8, Have discussed the ee cnange concerning fitting of the barrel and barrel extension on F.N.B, Automatics with Harry and several of the boys in the Shop. Based on theory only, } With only the one forward bearing surface in cont wee with (ne aheee jueiett of shock involved at this point, there is a likely possibility that the extension will tend to loosen up. However, getting down to what facts there are available, sere is no certainty where barrels do not have dual contact, that there will be a tendency for the extension to loosen up. The Shop has had barrels come in With loose extensions. Last year, it is estimated, they handled about 50 such cases. In these instances,we must assume that, originally, there was dual contact. To correct these loose extensions, the Shop places a De-Sta-Co arbor shim at the forward contact and tightens up the barrel to the proper alignment, Naturally, by the use of these spacers, the rearward bearing contact is eliminated, which is similar to the factory change. The Shop has used these Spacers in tightening up barrel extensions since about the year 193). It is now the recollection of the Shop that about 6 or 8 of this type of repair case have come back again with loose extensions during these several years. This, of course, is a small percentage.
