The State Basket Ball League was organized in Salt Lake City, on Jan. 21st, with Prof. T. E. McKay of our school, president and Prof J. H. Kemp of the B. Y. C, Logan, secretary. The Brigham Young University of Provo, the Latter Day Saints University of Salt Lake, the Brigham Young College of Logan, and the State School for the Deaf and Dumb and the Weber Stake Academy of Ogden, are the schools competing in the league for the State championship. The first game of the league was played at Ogden in the Lester Park pavillion, on Jan. 27, between the teams of the B. Y. C. of Logan and the W. S. A. of Ogden. The game was very lively and interesting and was well played by both teams. Dahle of Logan and Manning of Ogder made pretty baskets from the center of the field The game was won by the B. Y. C, with a score of 31 to 17. The work of the referee, Mr. Bassett of Salt Lake, was appreciated by both the teams and the spectators. The teams lined up as follows: B. Y. C. Position. W. S. A. Dahle, right forward Emmett Christensen- Wangsgard, left "McKay Jensen, center H. Belnap Merkley, right guard Manning Blair. left guard J. Belnap The second game was played on Jan. 28, at the gymnasium of the State School for the Deaf, between the former school and the B. Y. C. of Logan. The game was very one sided. The Deaf boys played well, but were very light compared to the Logan boys. The score was 63 to 9 in favor of Logan. The B. Y. U. of Provo and the L. D. S. U. of Salt Lake, met in the former city, on Jan. 28, for the third game of the league. This game was also one-sided and resulted in a victory for Provo, the score being 32 to 10. The S. S, D. of Ogden and the B. Y. U. of Provo met in Ogden on Feb. 3d, and the |
