A fragment of rollicking singing, The clasp of a hand, deep and firm, The joy of a hard task rewarded, And the thought of a one yet to learn, The thrill of a temptation conquered And reward for a sacrifice made, The deep, stirring loyalty to classmates, The love dreams that never will fade, A comradely word or encouragement, A kindly hand helping a friend- All are memories, dear and unblurring, That the years enchantment lend. The actions of youth we remember, Our adventures, our hates and our loves, And we treasure them up, never ending, Into patterns all brilliantly wove. The years may bring sorrow and hardship, Disappointment, poverty, pain, But the pattern of mem'ries of school days Makes us rich in our thought once again. And so, as the key to these treasures That we'll prize when we've all gone our ways, We offer this diary of Weber As rosemary sweet of school days. May it bring back the love and the friendships, To solace and comfort and help- May it heal the wound and give courage, Through the handclasp of friends newly felt. Helen Wilson. |
