In the Weber College tournament, Elizabeth Blair and Ruth Carver placed fourth in women's debate, while Rex McEntire reached the oratorical finals and finals in mens’ debate. Charles Carver and Donald Taylor, the The U. of U. tournament was also a success. Ruth and Elizabeth were in the women's debate finals, Marian Williams placed in the first six of the oratorical finals. and the extemporaneous speakers, Rex McEntire, Frank Wahlquist, and Charles Carver, also reached the finals. Robert Child were in the men's debate finals. Rex and Wayne, Frank and Marian Williams won an oratorical contest with Ogden High which was sponsored by the American Legion. Weber held an intra-mural speech contest this year. The extemporaneous speech winners were Helen Wadsworth, Velma Arve, and Ruth Johnston. Shirley Fuller, Roy Gibson, and Ethalyn Dickson were the story telling winners. Poetry reading winners were lola Belnap, Zelma Johns and Josephine Heslop. Margaret Bell, Yoshi Sato, and Marian Williams were the champion spellers. 75
