Show These first committee members were men who were willing to devote their time and means with great interest in helping the students of the Manual Training Department develop to be artisens in their chosen line of work. These students also would devote the knowledge and training by the experience gained to become leading citizens in the community where they chose to live, and would have gainful occupations. It was during this experience that I became acquainted with Weber College. While working with these men, two of them were faculty members, Lorenzo E. Peterson and Robert A. Clarke, and President H. Aldous Dixon of the college, that I came to realize the great need for a larger site for Weber College. In its crowded condition there was no room for it to grow and become a great educational institution, which it was destined to become. At one meeting of the Mount Ogden Stake Presidency I discussed with my counselors, A. Walter Stevensen and Stanley Robins, Scott Price was the clerk, some of the things I was doing for Weber College, the handicap of the small site and buildings and the great need for a larger place where it could grow and become a great college for many students. We decided to recommend to our high council that with their approval we would recommend to President H. Aldous Dixon, that a new site for Weber College was very urgently needed for its future development and growth. The high council was very much in favor of the recommendation. We made the report to President Dixon of our recommendation and pledged our support. Following is a copy of a letter I received from President Dixon on July 31, 1947: Dear President Paul: The first organized support which we received for the expansion of our campus and buildings came from you and the Mount Ogden High Council. You not only gave us encouragement, but you backed it up with continuous good hard work and great vision. I do not know where in this community we could have found a citizen who would have left his work and given himself up so fully as you did. While this sucess is only the beginning, I feel at this juncture that Weber College indeed owes you and your assosiates a debt of gratitude. Sincerely yours Aldous H. Aldous Dixon President This letter was written after the new site was purchased. |
