Show KATHRYN CANNON Vice-Pres. HENSLEY CORTEZ Pres. RAYMOND POULTER Sec. & Treas. The Sophomore Class As THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR APPROACHES, and thoughts of graduation absorb our attention, it is only natural for us to bring into perspective those achievements which have marked the successful school year of the Class 1923-24. We have been at Weber during the time in which it has been demonstrated that Weber College is a reality. It has been a privilege for us to lend our aid in establishing here an institution of higher learning which will be the means of greatly raising the educational standards of this community. With pride we review the activities in which we have been honored. The first social function of the year was the Sophomore Class party in October. This was only the introduction to a number of very entertaining parties which followed. The Class members surprised advisor A. L. Winsor in a cleverly arranged St. Patrick's Jamboree. In the intellectual activities the class made a remarkable record. Five of the Barker Extemporaneous speaking contests netted the Sophomores five first places with the decisions of fourteen out of fifteen judges. In the Grant Oratorical contest they received both first and second places. Three of the four members of the debating squad were Sophomores. The class placed four of its members on the honor roll of efficient scholarship, Ruth Stewart winning first place at the end of the fall quarter. The gregarious instincts of the Pink Elephants attracted a number of the wily Sophomores and they were manacled with the fetters of this royal order. Memories of these past honors, these achievements and their joys throng into view as we reach this milestone in our progress. In them we see a fulfillment of our hopes and ambitions and we now turn to the future with a hope to achieve even greater things. WlLMA SCHAER "Bill" EDUCATION: From the success she is achieving along physio- logical and psychological lines, we expect her to shine as a hypnotist. NELLIE WARD "Flatfeet" EDUCATION: Marked by her friendly smile and good nature. She makes the kind of pies you remember with pleasure and longing. MARINER BANFORD "Dooley" ENGINEERING: He is a familiar student of Weber, known and admired for his intelligence, perseverance, and good nature. One of the most brilliant chemistry sharks that ever made a poison gas. JOSEPHINE RHEES "Jo" EDUCATION: She is perfection personified in manners, dress and studies. At present she is making a collection of Canadian postage stamps. We wonder what Olin is collecting! RUTH MANNING "Utie" EDUCATION: Her natural marcel saves her enough money to keep her perpetually supplied with chewing gum. Her success as a teacher may be some- what impaired by this habit, however. |
