Show ELVIN WILKINSON Coach As STUDENT, COACH, AND FOOTBALL HERO, Elvin Wilkinson has certainly made a name for himself. Entering school at first as a student, he was able, because of his extensive athletic experience, to take over the coaching and managing of the football team. Under his direction the best football team ever developed at Weber won the Junior College football title in Utah. "Wilk" also played right halfback during the entire season. Even aside from his coaching, no one could forget his playing. He won state-wide attention by his ability to always "come up" smiling. Wilkinson also managed and coached the basketball team. Out of an almost entirely new line-up he selected and coached a team that ranked with any in the state. CLAUDE HELM Athletic Manager As ATHLETIC MANAGER, Claude had a difficult task in rounding up the fellows and keeping them and their suits in order. His work and influence did a great deal toward maintaining the teams on a functioning basis. With his black bag and the water bucket, Claude did as much to the teams as any of the players. SHERMAN COUCH Fullback "PETE" WAS ONE of the outstanding players on the team. He registered some of the most remarkable kicks re- corded in Utah, the one against B. Y. C. being especially good. The kick was a forty-yard drop made at right angles to the goal posts. Whenever Pete received an opposing player in his capacious arms, said player never got any farther. OVERTON ZINN End O. ZINN MADE a name for himself as being one of the classiest ends in the state. He circled his end constantly and kept an alert lookout for fumbles. Weber's victory in many games was clinched when Zinn scooped up a fumble and had gone for a touchdown be- fore he was noticed. CLARENCE BARKER Guard "CLIX" PLAYED his first football this year, but he played it so remarkably that after the Phoenix game, in which he played Tom's position at end for the first time, critics said that he was the most brilliant end that had per- formed in Phoenix for many years. Clix played consistently and tirelessly in all the games, and well earned the praise given him. ELMORE SMITH Quarterback "SMITTY" MANEUVERED his team at all times as a veteran. When he droned out the signals it was the sign for the opposing team to shiver, for no one knew when and where the Weber team would crash. Smitty shone brilliantly in all departments of the game. No one could pass like he, and in kicking, running, and tackling he ranked with the best. |
