Farrell Shepherd Union Building named Shepherd first staff to be so honored Student officers presented a pro- posal to the Institutional Council to name their Student Union Building for its‘director of the past 36 years, J. Farrell Shepherd, on the eve of his retirement. _ Kids have years — been telling me for ‘‘They ought to name this building after you, you’ve been here so long,’’ Shepherd said. “But I never took them very seriously until just a day or two before the students presented their request.”’ Students were joined in the dedication ceremony May 27 by faculty, staff, and administrators of the college, as well as by Shepherd’s family and friends. He graduated from WSC and then went on to the University of Utah where he recei- ved a bachelor degree. He worked at WSC as bookstore manager from 1946 until 1961 when he became director of union and student activities. Shepherd has served on many college committees, including Union Policy Board Chairman for 19 years, and president of the WSC Employees Federal Credit Union. |
