Show 40 WEBER STAKE ACADEMY. HISTORY AND POLITICAL SCIENCE General History.Required of second year students in the Normal course. The first semester will be devoted to the study of the Oriental nations, Greece, and Rome. The second semester Mediaeval and Modern history will be studied. Three hours per week throughout the year. Myer's General History History of the Orient and Greece.Required of second year students in the Classical Course. A general survey of Oriental nations, with special reference to their contribution to Western civilization; the development of the Athenian constitution and the institutions of Sparta; the city-state, with reasons for its development; Athenian culture will be studied as the highest type of Grecian civilization; the contact with the East, and the spread of Hellenism. Three hours per week first half year. First half of West's Ancient World, or Myers' Ancient History, Revised. Roman History.Required of second year students in the Classical course. Primitive Italy, the beginnings of Rome, the monarchy, the aristocracy, and the republic; the empire, the introduction of Christianity, and the invasions of the barbarians. Special attention will be given to the political history and to the development of Roman law. Three hours per week second half year. Second half of West's Ancient World, or Myers' Ancient History, Revised. English History.Required of third year students in the Classical course. Early England, the conquests OGDEN, UTAH. 41 by the Germanic tribes, the decline of feudalism, the Renaissance and Reformation in England, the constitutional development, and the growth of democracy will be considered. Three hours per week throughout the year. Cheyney's Short History of England, or Coman and Kendall's History of England. Modern History.Open as elective. The Holy Roman Empire, the Crusades, the feudal system, the Reformation, political revolutions, and the growth of ideas of religious liberty and political rights. Three hours per week throughout the year. West's Modern History, or Myers' Mediaeval and Modern History, Revised. United States History.Required of fourth year students. The period of discovery and exploration, the struggle for the possession of the continent, the Revolutionary war, the formation of the nation, the constitutional and industrial development, the Civil war and reconstruction will be considered. Five hours per week first half year. Channing's Students' History of the United States, or McLaughlin's History of the American Nation. Civil Government.Required of all fourth year students. The course consists of the study of the historical development of American institutions; a careful analysis of our government, national and local, and a discussion of present problems and policies. Five hours per week second half year. Ashley's American Federal State, or Moses' Government of the United States. |
