Show 86 Students who have completed 9 credit hours in these courses will have met the Life Science group requirements while 12 credit hours will be required to complete groups if other subjects in the division are selected for that purpose. If the student has had zoology, botany, physiology, or another biology course in senior high school, he should elect those courses in college which compensate for any deficiencies in his understanding and coverage of the life sciences. COURSES OP INSTRUCTION Life Sciences 1. Principles of Biology. This general education course deals with those principles and contributions of the plant and animal sciences which show functions and interrelationships. Four lectures and one laboratory period a week. Five quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Hayes, Smart, Young 2. Principles of Biology. This course follows Life Science 1, with special attention given to heredity, evolution, and conservation. Prerequisite: Life Science 1. Three lectures and one laboratory period a week. Four quarter hours. (Credit will not be given for both Life Science 2 and Biology 6.) Autumn, Winter, Spring. Young 81. Biological Progress and Modern Civilization. This course presents the biological foundations of modern society by emphasizing those discoveries which have helped in its development. The attainment of man's freedom from disease and from other obstacles to human progress will be discussed. It is recommended only for those students who do not elect other general education courses. Hayes COURSES OF INSTRUCTION Bacteriology It is recommended that a student pursuing a major in Bacteriology complete Bacteriology 1 or 2; Chemistry 4, 5, 6,; Mathematics 1, 3, 4; Physics 4, 5, and 6; Physiology 1; and Zoology 1 or 4. 1. Introductory Microbiology. A principles course which discusses life functions and microbial interrelationships and emphasizes microorganisms as biological forces contributing to personal health, family living, and vocational and professional training.
