Show 56 WEBER COLLEGE Normal Courses Graduation and Certification Requirements for Normal Students Graduation Requirements. Students completing the Normal Course will be granted the Degree of Associate of Arts. This course must include all requirements for graduation found on page 30. Certification Requirements. This department offers courses preparing prospective teachers for two elementary school certificates: a first class certificate valid for five years, and a second class certificate valid for two years. Diploma of Grammar Grade. Valid for life, provided the holder does not permit five consecutive years to elapse without teaching or supervising; granted to an applicant who has taught successfully at least five years, two of which have been in Utah, and has completed a standard four year high school course and two years of approved normal school or college work. The normal or college work must include six quarter hours in physical and health education, nine hours in English and twenty-seven hours in professional educational subjects which must include educational psychology or psychology of childhood, principles of education, methods of teaching elementary subjects, the Utah State Course of Study for Elementary Schools, educational organization and administration, and practice teaching. First Class Certificate. Valid for five years; granted to an applicant who has taught successfully in Utah for two years and has completed a standard four year high school course or its equi- WEBER COLLEGE 57 valent, and fifty-two and one-half quarter hours of approved normal school or college work, including twenty hours in educational subjects, among which educational psychology or psychology of childhood, principles of education, health education and educational organization and administration are required. This certificate is granted also to graduates of approved two-year normal courses which cover the scholastic and professional requirements for a diploma of grammar grade, including practice teaching to the extent of twelve quarter hours. The first class certificate, upon expiration, is subject to one-year extensions, provided, the holder completes seven and one-half quarter hours of approved normal school or college work for each extension. The first class certificate is not renewable. Second Class Certificate. Valid for two years; granted without examination to an applicant who has completed a four year standard high school course and one year of normal school or college work, including English composition, educational psychology, or psychology of childhood, principles of education, practice teaching and health education. The validity of the second class certificate may be extended from year to year on nine quarter hours of normal school or college credit. |
