MEMORIAL POEM IS WRITTEN TO G. L. LYONS Written in memory of her hus­band, G. L. "Pete" Lyon, who was killed two years ago today, Mrs. Lyon has submitted the poem below to The Graphic. Lyon, at the time of his death was a motorcycle patrolman for the local police department. He was killed early in the morning, apparently when his motorcycle wheel skidded in an East Sixth avenue street oar track. The poem follows: "THE OLD HOME PLACE'' (and Memories) We're hack again the Boy and me- At the old home place my dear And Oh! How strange and sad it seems- To come and you not here. The place is still the same in looks, As before you went away- But ah, the memories haunt us Dear 'Til at times we fain can stay. And still-again- It makes me happy too-- Being here where every thing, Reminds us so of you. Sand-piie end swing you made for him- As well as things for me. While Oft's the time you've hidden from us- In the big old China tree. There's the swing on the old front porch- Where you hung it years ago- And here you've told me of your love, A million times I know. As we'd sit and watch a bright full moon-• Shining down on your mother's flowers. Or talk of the things we'd like to do- For the dear little boy of ours. The long grape arbor-the berry vines- Above the old brick walk, Each have their story of you too- Altho' they can not talk. They lead me on to the old tool shed, And here in boyi°h scrawls, T see in ink-and chalk-and paint- Your name upon the walls. How many times the old garage- Must wender where you are- And why you ne're come speeding in On ruotor-sike or car. You used t0 drive right in the yard, And rhrse your mother about- Who-liker! it, but would scold so loud- She'd have all the neighbors out. In the house-A thousand things- You've made-or fixed-or done. Remind us so of your great love. We cherifh every one. But tho' we're sad-we try to smile- You see a game we play- That we shall see you after while- That you are-just away.
