He went to the bed room and returned, carrying a wee bundle containing master Tom Riley, followed by the sweetest little woman they had ever seen. Their surprise was greater than ever. Grandpapa couldn't hug little Tom enough. He said he felt like a boy again; wanted to do something but he didn't know what; he capered and danced until the boys declared if he didn't stop they'd break their sides with laughing. All the neighbors now arrived. Mary had invited them to come and help celebrate in honor of her young man. It was a surprise all around. Miss Carey, the village gossip, noticed a ring on Mary's finger and so Charley told them the secret. On the th of April the Academy girls completed one of their most successful basketball seasons. They have not played so many games this year as they have other years but those that were played were the most successful. Had they had a chance to meet the other teams of the state there is no doubt but that they would have been state champions. For a long time it was hard to get the girls out to practice, but when they did they meant business, and. went at it in a businesslike manner. The players were those who played last year and with Lizzie McKay as their captain they were soon ready for work. After about two weeks of practice the girls went to Logan and played the girls of the B. Y. College. The two teams were nearly matched in size and activity.
