Show ATHLETICS INTER-CLASS GAMES. What is this I hear as I push open the doors and enter the halls of Weber? From above methinks I hear the sound of many voices and yet they are not those of angels. Far from it; for as we draw nearer, we can distinguish the sharp bark rah, rah, rah, Champs, champs, champs, and we discover that it is only the Senior class celebrating the victories of its class basket ball team, over the others of the school. Upon investigation we find that on the dates of October 20 and November 2 the Sophomores and the Freshies had met in fast and exciting games, and it came to pass that the green and verdant Freshmen carried off the honors in both games, winning the last by the score of 36-22. Behold, the day after the first of the above named games, the Seniors and the Juniors were scheduled to clash. These two teams were judged to be the strongest teams in the league and on account of the even strength of the two, and also the class rivalry, a very hard and close game was anticipated. At the end of the first half the score stood 5-5. In the second half the Seniors went in to win and gradually ran the score up to 20, while their opponents were content to pause at 9. And it came to pass that the next game was as hard as the first, and finally ended 23-13 again in favor of the Seniors. The next week saw the finals between the Seniors and Freshmen. The Freshmen were conceded to be quit fast, but it was expected that their older opponents would defeat them. Both teams went in to win this deciding game, and the Seniors were victorious, the score being 36-10. The next game also went in their favor 29-17. The Freshmen have fast men, but the experience of their opponents were too much for them. ACORN 19 Since our last issue went to press, the school team has been chosen by the coach. The line-up is: Ingles Right Forward Belnap Left Forward McKay Center Watson Right Guard Lindsay Left Guard Toone Substitute Jones Substitute They met recently and elected Watson as captain for this year. He is experienced and is well liked, so that he should have success in handling his team. Y. M. C. A. VS. WEBER. A few nights ago Weber played the Y. M. C. A. of Salt Lake at Ogden. When.the Christians came upon the floor they seemed overconfident, as their best men were on the side lines. Things opened auspiciously for W'eber. In the first five minutes of play the score ran up 10 to 4 and the visitors began to tremble. They called time and sent Hammond, Wilcox, Moser and Korns in. The presence of these "fathers," as they were rightfully called, was felt and the firsr half ended 15-15. In the second half luck seemed to be; against Weber. The boys got in and played ball from the start, and time after time they would shoot the ball to their basket only to have it roll around the rim and drop outside. It was hard to pick the stars, because the men played not for themselves, but for each other. All did good passing and played team work. Although the game ended 45-21 in favor of Y. M. C. A., we do not feel at all discouraged over the showing made against the great experience of the Christians; in fact we feel that by the beginning of the league games we will have a team that will make any other high school five "go some." |
