Show ALUMNI The members of the Alumni Association are scattered throughout the whole world at various occupations, some are studying in foreign lands or at home, and others are fulfilling missions. As students we find Alberta Wright from class '11 and her brother William from class '08 studying music in Paris. Mrs. Marion Belnap Kerr is studying with her husband in Lausaune, Switzerland. Among those at home are William Mitchell, '03, a Freshman at the U. of U. law school; George Ensign, '07, a Senior in the Arts Course at the U. of U.; Harold Johnson, '08, a Senior Engineer at the U. of U.; Irving Irickson, '08, a Senior in the Arts Course at the U. of U.; Clarence E. Wright, '08, a student of the U. A. C.; Andrew Baggs, '09, a Junior Engineer of the U. of U.; Carl Shipp, '09, a Sophomore Engineer at U. of U.; Laurence Farr, '09, a Freshman at the Arts School, U. of U.; Lila Eccles, Fawn Wright and Leland Read from Class '10, are Sophomores in the Arts Course at the U. of U.; Beatrice Brewer, '11, is a Freshman in the Arts Course at the U. of U., and Rae Barlow, also at the U. of U., is studying the Kindergarten Course. Mr. Heber Hancock, '09, a graduate of the U. A. C, '11, is in the U. S. Forestry Service, Idaho. A large number of our members on missions in various parts of the earth are: William Ellis, '08, in Japan; Joseph H. Stimpson, '02, the first editor of the Acorn, is also in Japan. Those in Swiss-German mission are: Victor H. Sears, TO; William Manning, '05; Earl Ballantyne, '06; Francis Goddard, '09; Clyde Clark, '11, and Hyrum A. Belnap, '09. Three of the boys, Lawrence Richards, Ernest McKay and Carl Lindquist from class TO, with Mathias Tanner, '09, are in the Eastern States Mission. Wilford ShurtlirT, '07, has had some very interesting experiences as a missionary in Hawaii. He is still making use of his artistic ACORN 21 talent and decorates his letters with characteristic water color sketches of the natives and scenery. Henry L. Jensen, '06, Jeddie McKay, '11, and Joe Eccles, TO, are on missions in Great Britain. Weber is very fortunate in having a number of former students as members of the faculty. They are: LeRoy E. Cowles, '03 ; Lizzie-McKay, '04; William McKay, '06; Ida Shurtliff, Pearl Cragun, '08, and Leone Engstrom, '11. How our hearts throb and swell with pride and admiration every time we hear of our "Alma Mater." We are truly interested. We want to know all about the Academy the students that are and have been; and the best way we can is through the Acorn. Let's subscribe for it. MEMORIES. Our thoughts go back to Weber, We think of days long passed; Our minds call up the pictures That shall forever last. We think of Brother Moench, As one who's true and tried, With Peterson, the sturdy, Sitting by his side. He was stern, but O! how gentle, Full of truth and wisdom rare; One of God's most useful servants Guarding every one with care. To the right sat Wm. Terry, To the left our J. G. Lind, Next to them McKay and Fairbanks, With their frowns for all who sinned. Jennette McKay and Sarah Evans Served as inspiration rare To the girls who sought their counsel In times of work and prayer. Sister Evans, as we called her, Has gone to her reward, But her inspiration liveth Though her soul is with the Lord. Come back and linger near us, You loved of by-gone days. Help as you always helped us O'er bright or stormy ways. '04 |
