Show 18 THE ACORN Theology Summary It is conceded to be a general truth that God will make known his will to any man, woman or child regardless of their station in the world or their nationality, provided they fulfill certain conditions. One must put himself in a condition to receive instructions from the Lord. This statement is verified by Paul, Peter, John and Jesus. At the time of the Apostles of old, there was a feeling of dislike between a Jew and a Gentile. It was considered a very great sin for a Jew to enter into a Gentile's house. This was very firmly believed in by the Apostles and it surprised them very much when Jesus said that the gospel was for Gentile as well as Jew. When Peter was in Joppa he went upon a house top, and while resting there, he was carried away in a vision. In it he saw a sheet let down from Heaven containing four footed animals. A voice said: "Arise Peter, slay and eat." But Peter answered that he ate nothing un- clean. Then the voice said, "What God has cleansed call thou not unclean." The Lord then told him of the messengers at the gate and bade him accompany them. Peter descended from the house top and met the expected servants of Cornelius. They told him that their master wished to see him and together they departed for Caesarea. Cornelius although a Gentile, was a very devout man and had prayed to the Lord for guidance. He was therefore commanded to send to Joppa where he would find one who would tell him the way unto salvation. The Lord himself might have told Cornelius, but he had bestowed the priesthood upon Peter and therefore recognized his authority. When Peter arrived at the house of Cornelius he found it full of people eager to hear him talk. He gave them gospel truths and to his surprise the Holy Ghost descended upon all present. Then it was that he said, "Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons." Wilmer Jensen. EXCHANGE Teacher "Now Robert, do you know what an isosceles triangle is?" Robert " Yes' m." "Well what is it?" "It's one of those things I get licked for, not knowing what it is. The Exchange Department of the "Ingot" is a clever idea. Ella Bella told me that you told her a secret that I told you not to tell her. Stella She's a mean thing. I told her not to tell you I told her. Ella Well, I told her I wouldn't tell you she told me, so don't tell her I did. The "Trinitonian" is one of the neatest papers we have received, Druggist (to little girl customer): "Did you say pills, miss?" Little girl. "Yes sir, please." Druggist: "Antibilious?" Little girl: 'No, sir, but uncle is.' "What made the old gentlemen so angry?" Clerk: "He wanted two dog biscuits, and I only asked him if he'd take 'em here, or have them wrapped up." We are glad to welcome "Spice" on our Exchange list. We like you "Center" because you pay plenty of attention to the Exchange Department. "Papa," said Tommy, "I didn't like your sermon yesterday." Father: "Why, my son?" Tommy: "Cause it wasn't true. You said the boy of today is the man of tomorrow, and you know that's too soon." Mary washed her hair, But didn't wash her head, For she hung it on a nail to dry And calmly went to bed. "Southern Rays" has made an excellent beginning. What kind of noise annoys an oyster? Any kind of noisy noise annoys an oyster. A fly and a flea, in a flue: We' re imprisoned.'' Now wh at could they do? Said the fly, "Let us flee." Said the flea, "Let us fly." So they flew thru the flaw in the flue. |
