Show ATHLETICS The basket ball season has opened, and the spirit for basket ball is growing-, not only among the students, but among the people. Although our boys are working under disadvantages, the intention is to keep the spirit growing. The students are supporting the boys, which of course is a necessary feature to make basket ball a success. On January 19, our boys met the B. Y. U. at Provo. They met defeat, being out-classed by the University team. This should only make our boys work much harder to win games, yet to come. January 26, they met the A. C. U. boys of Logan, at new Armory Building. This was the first league game of the 1907 series played in Ogden. The night preceding the game, a dancing party was given at the Fifth Ward Amusement Hall, in honor of the Logan boys. Below is a schedule for the Basket Ball League, 1907. January 19 B. Y. U. vs W. Music The new Tabernacle organ was heard by the public, for the first time, in a recital given Monday, January 14. Several hundred people were there to hear the beauties and powers of the organ. Prof. McClellan, played in his usual masterly way. The organ is, in some respects, the finest in the West, and all who have heard it, speak only praise for it. The singing of the Tabernacle choir under Prof. Ballantyne, was also greatly appreciated by the large and attentive audience. This may be classed with the truly musical events. An orchestra of several pieces has been recently organized. The boys are having regular practices and we give them our best wishes. The band is practicing and adding new pieces to its list. All lovers of music were keenly disappointed at the unavoidable non-appearance of Mme. Schuman-Heink, January 17. About the Library Students, the Library is full of friends, waiting to serve you. There they stand row on row anxious to be taken out and used. If you can add any worthy books to the number on our shelves now, do so. It is missionary work open to all. Also, if you would bring good magazine articles or newspaper clippings, they will be properly arranged and are often very valuable. We have few rules, and they are so simple that all may be expected to obey them to the letter: 1. No book must be retained longer than one week without renewal of the loan with the Librarian. 2: A fine of one cent a day will be charged against all delinquents. 3. No student who owes a fine of any amount can borrow books until that fine is paid. 4. Borrowers will be held responsible for any damage or loss of books, belonging to the Library, which may occur while in their possession. Minnie M. Brown, Librarian. |
