Show 22 THE ACORN ATHLETIC NOTES. On Feb. 10, the B. Y. C. met the L. D. S. in Salt Lake City, and defeated them to the score of 30 to 11. On Feb. 11 the B. Y. U. and B. Y. C. met in Provo, for their second game. The Logan boys played fast ball, but the Provo giants were too much for them; the score was 9 to 12. The first game between the L. D. S. and S. S. D. was played in Ogden on Feb. 17. Owing to poor basket pitching on the part of the mutes they lost the game; the score was 28 to 11. On Feb. 18, the L. D. S. and B. Y. C. played in Logan, when the B. Y. C. won another victory, the score being 26 to 9. On the same day, the W. S. A. met the "big five" of the B. Y. U. Our boys did not get into the game in the beginning and as a result the score was 22 to 5 at the end of the first half. The second half was more interesting, the score being 8 to 5 in favor of Provo. The final score was 30 to 10 in Provo's favor. The team work and fast playing of our team was very highly praised by the Provo people. On Feb. 22, the W. S. A. and S. S. D. met at the latter's gymnasium. In the first half the deaf boys did some excellent basket pitching, but they fell down somewhat in the second half. The final score was 36 to 22 in our favor. On Feb. 27, the B. Y. U. played with the L. D. S. in Salt Lake. In the first half, the score was nearly even, but in the second, the Provo boys ran ahead, the final score being 36 to 16. The closest and most exciting game of the league was played in Ogden on Feb. 25, between the teams of the B. Y. U. and the W. S. A. The game was fast and very even throughout, making it the most intesting game ever played THE ACORN 23 in Ogden. In the first half, the score was 7 to 5 in favor of the Academy. In the second half, Adams, the Provo center, entered the game. He did not play during the first half on account of a bruised toe. When time was called, the score stood 14 to 14, and the tie had to be played off. In the part of the game after time was called, each side had two foul throws, giving each an equal chance to win. The Provo boys were too excited, and missed the basket both times. Emmett of our team got both, and so won the game. The score was 16 to 14. Mr Bassett was the referee. Our boys deserve great credit for the way in which they played their opponents. They were all in the game from the start, and this with their quick passes and excellent team work won the game. All of the boys scored from the field, except Emmett, but he made six baskets out of ten throws. Henry Belnap made two goals. The teams lined up as follows for the first half: W. S. A. Position B. Y. U. Emmett Right Forward Rose McKay Left Forward Colton H. Belnap Center Anderson J. Belnap Right Guard Gourley Manning Left Guard Watkins In the second half Adams played center, Anderson right guard, and Gourley left forward.
