Show Page 24 Scribulus Village Cut-Up: Has overwhelming tendency to show off. Writes across the Signpost. Throws chalk, hides pencils, and talks back to profs with a false sense of bravado. Talks out loud in assembly, disturbing the other half of the audience no end. Mentally Aloof: Takes twenty-one hours or more every quarter. Disparages any form of recreation or indulgence. Always hands his work in on time in perfect order but never lends a notebook or two over the week-end. Reads George J. Nathan, H. L. Menchen, and the writings of other invective misanthropes. Morbid-minded: Forever prophesying exams. Perpetually bringing up report cards, and broken dates. Delights in creating a graphic picture of the undying agony of a soul in mental torment who has just popped the question and received an emphatic "no!" Method of extermination: hydrocyanic acid. Club Member: Believes in the "Divine Right of Rings" theory. In the old days the caveman occasionally would take up a club with a knotty end and smite off his enemies. He used it for self-protection. Nowadays the aspiring collegian takes up a club. It usually has a naughty end. He uses it for self-projection. Ol' Pal: Insists on paying for the check. Known as the "after-dinner mint." Has legible "ponies." Makes two copies of daily assignment. Lends a five now and then. Knows all the best girls and introduces them. (Species almost extinct.) Impulsive: Acts solely on the spur of the moment. Walks down the street at night meditating upon the wisdom of heaving a rock through a plate glass window. He'd like to rise up in church sometime and swear at the preacher on impulse. He likes to break things on impulse. He likes to break hearts on impulse. (Editors' note: I'd like to break your neck! this is not an impulse. Don't you ever run down?) Tom McQuown.
