Show DONNY Larry Peer Donny's short curly hair twinkled in the bright sunlight of noon. His fair complexion contrasted with the black hair, just as his slim ten-year old body contrasted with the oversized levi's he wore. His tee-shirt was smudged with sandy colored dirt. Patches of white showed under the sweaty and dirty smudges on his tennis shoes. At his side stood a dog, a yellow boxer puo about a foot tall. Donny looked around him. To the front was the city. It looked a million miles away from where he stood on the edge of a cliff. He saw his home in the distance. At his feet the dog barked. "See that stream?" Donny said in a question to his dog. Donny pointed to the stream, floating between cracks of rock on the bottom of the small valley formed by cliffs, one of which he was standing on. It was almost 250 feet down. He looked up at the sky, smudged with clouds like his shoes were smudged with dirt. The sun reminded him of the round label on his tennis shoes. A cloud floated in front of the sun and slightly shadowed the ground. "Everything smells like forest," he thought. The sun reappeared. A butterfly glided through the sandy smelling air toward him. "That butterfly is floatingon the air, Fred!" he exclaimed. 25 |
