Show Linda: It's very sweet, Bradley, but I've got a date and I have to change my clothes. (She kisses him quickly on forehead and begins to exit by hall) Brad: (Follows her out) But aren't you gonna be here for supper? Linda: No pumpkin. (Linda turns around and winks at him) You can read the poem to me tomorrow night at supper, how's that? (She leaves and Brad runs after her) Brad: But Linda, don't you want to hear what I'M thankful for? Pamela: Want to hear what I'M thankful for, Bradley (Correcting him) Brad: Yeh, that's what I said. (He begins poem and exits.) (During this time Jerry has taken off his coat and thrown it over the back of the couch. He has sat down on the couch by his mother. Bill has begun to put on his shoes, sitting in the big chair. Pamela walks over to the table and picks up Linda's coat and brings it and lays it on top of Jerry's.) (Jerry stretches still remaining in a sitting position and chuckles) Jerry: Wow! Was I ever that bad? (He glances towards the hall door indicating Bradley) Pamela: (Laughing ) You were worse. When you were ten do you remember giving your bike away to the Bronson boy up the street because he left his in the garage and his father ran over it? Jerry: We'll that was different. But at leastI never went around reciting poetry about Thanksgiving. (Begins to mimic) Thanks for the good old flag of red, white and blue. Thanks for America who still is staunch and true. (He begins to laugh.) 34 Bill: (He straightens up from his bent position of putting on his shoes) Now I know it's a little trying on patience but, (he frowns on Jerry) we mustn't discourage Bradley. To him Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday. We must do everything possible to make it seem just like he wants it to be. So don't spoil it for him. Speaking about holidays, today is the last day they are going to clean off the leaves from the golf course. John and I thought we'd try one more game before the season closes. You wouldn't mind if I went today would you, Pam? It being the last day and everything. 35 |
