Donna Sneddon, Jarvis Anderson, Marilyn Jones and Leon Ray ring the Victory Bell at the end of the game with Clark College. Superior as this college has been in intermountain athletics for years, a far bigger and better program opens up, especially in football, with the formation of Ogden Quarterback Club. It is an organization of sports-minded townspeople for the purpose of making available to outstanding and deserving athletes major scholarships to Weber College. Its chief aim is to develop a unified community support in sports for this school. The unit will also give enthusiastic backing to the secondary schools of Ogden. Reed K. Swenson, head coach, and Dr. Henry Aldous Dixon, Weber president, find the backing of these leaders among business and professional men just the thing the college needs. Said Milton (Milt) Mecham, head football coach: "I think this is one of the most welcome additions we have had at Weber College. If the movement is given proper support and handled right, it can mean much to the sports program both for the college and for the community." Wildcats came out on the long end of a ten-game series in the 1950 football campaign by winning six and losing four. Compton, top junior college team of the nation, gave Weber its worst trouncing in some time by a score of 67 to 0. Boise J. C, winner of the Intermountain Conference, also is sporting the longest winning streak in the nation with a total of forty wins and no defeats in a five-year winning record. Boise played Weber in a steady downpour of rain. Regardless of the. weather the teams played hard-fought football, with Boise managing to come out on the long end of the 8 to 0 score. Weber's other two losses came at the hands of Southern Idaho, second in the conference, and Sequoia, a strong California organi- Page 10 zation. Wins over Carbon, Dixie and Ricks placed Weber third in the intermountain standings with three wins and two defeats. In defeating top teams of the nation such as Oregon Tech., Clark and John Muir colleges in non-conference plays, Weber earned its right to being rated as one of the best teams in the West. As Coach Meacham put it, "Our team this year compares very favorably with past teams of Weber. Our boys played good, rough, tough football and were the best of sports on and off the field." Coach Meacham expressed his gratitude for the fine cooperation of the players. "This is one of the finest squads I have ever had the privilege of coaching," said Milt. "We haven't met a team this year that hasn't complimented the boys on being clean sports and playing hard football." Coach Meacham also expressed appreciation for the work of Clair Anderson, line coach; and of Dr. James Foulger and Dick Williams, backfield coaches. The offensive team usually consisted of: Ray Smith and Dale Gardner, ends; Harry (Sonny) Bray and Vern Young, tackles; Marvin Peterson (captain) and Eli Keolanui, guards; Kenneth Johnson or Gordon Peterson, center; Rodney Pollard, quarterback; Lamont Lamb and Judge Hawkes, halfbacks; and Charles Ka-lani, fullback. Defensive team was: Donald Butler and Ronald Wilkinson, ends; Norvin Butler and Fred Draayer, tackles; Mike Fotes and Dennis Cronin, guards; Dean Stimson, center; Ken Worton, quarterback; Max Prescott and Albert West, halfbacks; and Junior Bybee, fullback.
