Muscle-Bending in Intramurals By JOHN DAVIES An undefeated Phoenix team was football champion in intramurals during the fall quarter. The playoff was between Phoenix, league one winner, and Sigma team No. II, winner of the second league, turned out to be the best game of the season. At half-time the score was nothing to nothing. First blood was struck well into the final minutes of the game, when Sigma won two points on a safety. Each team played desperately in the final minutes. Phoenix finally scored in the closing seconds of the game. The extra point was good. Final score: Phoenix 7, Sigma 2. Top league standings of fall quarter competition are: Sigma 315 Phoenix 265 Alpha Rho 120 The 1949-1950 league was taken by a strong Sigma organization. Outstanding player went to a Sigma man, Allen Christiansen. This year the program during the fall started off with touch football, ping pong, paddle ball and volley ball. Sports forthcoming during winter quarter are basketball, water polo, swimming, plus more ping pong and squash. Spring events are to be softball, tennis, track and field and horseshoes. Heading the program as faculty director is Clair Anderson, who has done a job of teaching sportsmanship among the teams. Student intramural manager is Albert Sanone, who is also doing a capable job of directing the league and refereeing the various sports. Team captains are: Eugene Waters, Vikings; Eldon Hatch, Alpha Rho; Vic Judy, Delta Phi; Glen McEntire, Sigma; Keith Downs, Excelsior; Phil Evans, Phoenix; and Roy Davies, Skull. THE FEMININE TOUCH TO INTRAMURALS By ELAINE TIMMERMAN The Women's Athletic Association is organized for the purpose of providing all women members of Weber College an opportunity to participate in its sports programs, and through this participation to learn new techniques in new activities. Autumn quarter brought volley ball and ping pong into the spotlight. The activities so far have proved very excellent. The girls are very active and go into the games all out to win. The games are played every Friday from two to four o'clock. The league standing in volley ball and ping pong is: Iota 2 0 Sharmae 3 1 Tiki 3 1 Chanodo 2 2 La Dianaeda 2 2 Independents 0 2 Otyokwa 0 4 This year the W. A. A. has voted that each team play every other team instead of using the elimination system used last year. All problems concerning the rules and procedure are discussed and voted upon for an agreement. The W. A. A. has an outstanding group of officers this year. They are: Amy Johnson, president; Jan Cooper, secretary; Joye Rae, reporter; Carol Slater, intramural manager; Mrs. Marva Gregory, advisor. The vice president and assistant intramural managers are chosen from the freshmen representatives. They are: Velma Payne, vice president, and Annette Johnson, assistant intramural manager. Volley ball manager is Elaine Timmerman, and ping pong manager is LaRae Findley. Captains of the teams are: Iota Tau Kappa, Elaine Timmerman; Chanodo, Barbara Burningham; Independents, Juana Cunning-ton; Sharmae, Vira Beth Robison; Otyokwa, Renee Glover; La Dianaeda, Joy Rae; Tiki, Shirley Dalinga.
