By DON WILKINSON Against the finest junior college basketball talent of the Intermountain area, Weber College won the Region Four title of the National Junior College Athletic Association in a tight game against Snow College of Ephraim in the tournament finals, 57 to 45. Acquiring the top Region Four honor qualified Weber to compete in the national tournament at Hutchinson, Kansas, March 20 to 24. It was the third successive year that the local college won the region. The success of the tournament as conducted by Weber College under the direction of Milton (Milt) Mecham, regional vice president, and the athletic staff qualified Ogden again as the tournament site for 1952. Reed K. Swenson, basketball coach, is also national president. Outstanding player award went to big Bill Hull, Weber center. Besides Hull, nine other players were named to the all-star squad, among them Bob Harbertson and Don Dins-dale of Weber. Others named as stars were: Allred, Snow; Kuhr, Montana; Totten, Boise; Buyok, Sheridan; Bond, B. A. C; Wegkamp, Snow, and Adams, Casper. The Weber basketball team captured second place in the northern division of the Intermountain Collegiate Athletic Conference, being defeated for first place by Ricks College of Rexburg, Idaho. Southern division championship was won by Snow College of Ephraim. Snow College took the north-south play-off on the Ephraim floor with two straight wins over Ricks. Coach Reed K. Swenson of Weber said his team had a "very good season" but that it was unfortunate that Ricks, a four-year experienced team, and Weber as almost a freshman organization were closely matched in a private race for the championship of the north. Wildcats won nine out of twelve games, losing to Ricks twice in Ogden and in Rexburg and to Boise in Boise. Ricks edged Weber by winning ten out of a dozen games, losing to this school in Ogden and in Rexburg. In the long pre-season schedule Weber won ten out of sixteen games. The wins were five out of nine on a trip into Idaho, Washington and Oregon, one out of three in a tournament in Cedar City, and four out of four on the home court in Ogden. Weber broke the conference record for single game high scoring in the fourth game with Southern Idaho College of Education of Pocatello by compiling 102 points to 60 for the opponents. Bob Harbertson, Weber forward, obtained status as high point man of the northern division with 219 points. Dallinga of Ricks, high pointer in 1948, 1949 and second in 1950, was second in 1951 with 207 points. First team players were: Bob Harbertson and Don Dins-dale, forwards; Larry Woods and Glen Ashby, guards; Bill Hull, center. Dinsdale and Woods were co-captains. Other players seeing action were: Ron Wright, Jim Slay-den, Dee Warner, Don Wilkinson and Basil Beech, forwards; Ron Wilkinson, Mark Ballif, Ronnie Harris and Sherman Wayment, guards; Dale Gardner and Don Butler, centers.
