This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

An attendant walking. in front (3) will carrying a gilt staff at the top of which is a smoldering wad of hemp, giving off acrid-smelling smoke. The attendant turns to the new Pope and three times reminds him, “Pater Sancte, sic transit gloria mundi.” (Holy Father, the glory of the world soon passes away. ) Then comes the coronation and Pope John XXIII spreads wide his hands (4) in a blessing that he alone can give as visible spiritual leader of ‘the world’s halfbillion Roman Catholics. He is the 262nd Pope in a line from Peter the Apostle. | |
