Show The Normal School Object. There is a great demand in Utah and adjoining states for efficient teachers. The local institutions have not been able to furnish a sufficient number of well-trained men and women to take charge of public school instruction. To meet this condition, the general Church Board of Education in January, 1916, decided to establish a two-year advanced Normal course in the Weber Academy. The object of this college work is two-fold; to prepare teachers for the elementary grades, and to assist in preparation of teachers for the organization of the Church. Courses. Two courses are offered in the Normal school. 1.A four-year Preparatory Normal course, offered in the high school. 2.A two-year Advanced Normal course, offered in the college. The Preparatory Normal course furnishes a good, strong curriculum of high school work, which gives a thorough preparation for the advanced course. The two years' work of the Advanced Normal course includes all the subjects required of teachers in the elementary schools of Utah and surrounding states. The fifth year's work will be given in the year 1916-7, and sixth year's work will be added in 1917-8. Training Facilities. Through arrangements that have been made with Superintendent Petterson, and the Weber County Board of Education, normal students will be permitted to do their practice teaching in the County Schools. All practice teaching will be under the supervision of the director of the Normal department, as well as the County Superintendent and County Supervisors. Junior College Admission Requirements. For admission to the Advanced Normal course, a student must offer fifteen units of credit by certificate from an approved school, or by examination. In case the character of a student's work is, in any subject, such as to create doubt as to the quality of that which preceded, the Weber College explicitly reserves the right to revoke at any time any credit assigned on certificate, and to exact examination in the same. No students pursuing any of the higher courses shall be permitted to register for more than twenty or fewer than fifteen hours per week, nor shall changes in registration be granted, except by special vote of the Faculty. Fees. The entrance fee for the College is $25.00. This includes the student body fee of $2.50. Graduation. A candidate for graduation from the Advanced Normal course will be granted a Normal Grammar Grade Diploma on the presentation of sixty hours' college credit. This work must include the prescribed subjects. A Normal certificate may be granted to students who successfully complete the first year of the Advanced Normal course, including six hours in practice teaching. Upon the presentation of the Normal Diploma to the State Board of Education, the applicant may be granted a State Certificate to teach in the public schools of the State. No student will receive credit toward graduation in any study in which the percentage of excellence falls below 60; nor shall any student be graduated who does not attain an average of 75 per cent in all studies |
