Show A to Principal Metcalf Tribute As principal Roy C. Metcalf retires, we pay tribute to this great man. This year concludes a career of 44 years in the educational field, 19 of which have peen here at Weber. This man has found a place in the heart of every individual who has attended Weber under his administration. Many of the activities and educational opportunities that we have enjoyed throughout our high school years are a direct result of the efforts of Mr. Metcalf, This man has not only achieved great heights at Weber, but throughout his life he has achieved numerous honors and held many positions of im- portance. Mr. Metcalf was born on September 19, 1897. In. 1916 he graduated from Manti High School. He attended U of U and obtained his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees. He has since attended US.U., U.CL.A., and workshops at Northwestern and Columbia colleges. He has been principal of various schools in Box Elder and Weber County. These include: Snowville Elementary; Bear River Jr. High and Elementary; North Ogden Jr. High and Elementary; and our own Grand Ol’ Weber. He has also served as dean of boys at Weber and assistant superintendent of secondary schools. During these years he has been made an honorary member of the FFA, D. E. Clubs of America, Quill and Scroll, and Young Scientists of America. He has had extensive experience in the U.E.A. and has been president of that organization. He was first President of W.E.A. and was a N.E.A. delegate to the World Confederation of Organization of the Teaching Profession, in Washington, D.C. in 1959. He has served on the Utah Education Council or Policies Commission, and has been President of Tau Field chapter P.D.K. He has also served as President of the Utah High School Activities Association. His civic activities have been varied. He has been president of the Kiwanis Club, a member of the town board, board of directors of Weber Chapter of the American Red Cross, Weber County chairman, and member of state executive committee of a major political party. He was a resource person in the aviation workshop at University of Hawaii in 1958, and Utah Wing Commander of C.A.P. We will always remember with loving fondness Mr. Metcalf’s daily, “U-hbh Good Morning,” and as he departs we know that his departure will leave an empty place in our hearts. We wish him all the best that life can afford for his future. 39 |
