Show 8 TENTH ANNUAL REPORT canyons and bench lands afford excellent opportunities for the practical study of geology, mineralogy and botany. Fourth The world's greatest stars in elocution and oratory are sure to give Ogden the benefit of their accomplishments; hence students can have an excellent opportunity of receiving practical illustrations of these things. BUILDING. The building is large and commodious, fully capable of accomodating from four hundred to five hundred students. Its location is convenient, being in the central part of the town, fronting on one of the most beautiful parks of Ogden, beautifully adapted in spring, summer and autumn for quiet meditation. It is classical in architectural design and arrangement, and the heating and ventilation is arranged according to modern design. It has one large study hall 65x36, with 20 foot ceiling, together with eleven recitation rooms, varying in size from 34x26 to 24x18 and also 18-foot ceilings. Thus the building is not only commodious, but exceedingly healthful, and in every way well adapted for the work for which it has been designed. EXPENSES. We are pleased to announce the fact to the public that the tuition system has been abolished, thus placing the institution upon an equal footing with the kindred institutions of our state. Hereafter an entrance fee of $10 dollars will be charged which will cover all tuition expenses for the entire school year, excepting the commercial department for which $5 extra will be charged simply to cover use of instruments and other incidental expenses. In chemistry and physics a small fee is charged for chemicals and other articles necessary to successfully teach these branches. WEBER STAKE ACADEMY. 9 All the above fees are payable strictly in advance. Board and lodging can be secured for from $2.50 to $4 per week. By several students clubbing together, the expense can be much reduced. ADMISSION. While the institution is strictly a Latter day Saint school yet its doors are open to all denominations, creeds and nationnalities; and the truths taught are those which are found in their purity in the sacred book, the Bible; the aim being to develop the whole student, religiously, morally and intellectually. It is, however, expected that all students yield obedience to all rules and regulations established by the board and faculty of the institution, and that they do not indulge in any practice or habit detrimental to the school or set any bad example to other students whereby evil seeds may be sown and implanted in the hearts of others. PREPARATION. Candidates for admission to preparatory and commercial courses must be at least 14 years of age and either offer a certificate from the last school attended, or pass a satisfactory examination in the following branches: (a) Arithmetic, including the fundamental principles, together with an elementary knowledge of common and decimal fractions. (b) Grammar, including the parts of speech, together with their relations in written discourse together with simple and compound sentences. (c) Geography, including general descriptions, together with boundaries and coast lines and particularly the geography of Utah and the United States. |
