Show 10 TENTH ANNUAL REPORT (d) Readingthe applicant must be able to read intelligibly from the Franklin Fifth Reader. (e) Spellingthe applicant must be able to spell correctly common English words, and to punctuate simple sentences. (f) Penmanshipthe applicant must be able to write a plain and legible hand. SOCIETIES. Two societies will be organized: the one, a literary society for students and parents, where they can while away an evening pleasantly under the influence of some of our most intelligent speakers, enabling them to glean in a few moments what might take hours of patient study to acquire. The second, a student's debating society, designed for the benefit of students who wish to cultivate the art of oratory and debate. Students will be given the opportunity of conducting the societies through the aid of the teachers. COURSE OF STUDY. The following courses of study are offered for 1897-98. 1A two years Preparatory Course. 2A two years Commercial Course. 3A three years Normal Course. 4A four years Normal Course. 5Course in General Science, three years. 6Course in Letters, three years. GRADUATION. Students who complete either of the courses offered except the preparatory receive certificates of graduation. WEBER STAKE ACADEMY. 11 The standing of students in studies pursued is determined from the daily records of recitations, reviews and final examinations. No student shall receive credit towards graduation in any study in which the percentage of excellence falls below 60; nor shall any student be graduated who does not attain an average of 75 in all studies included in the course. NORMAL COURSE. The importance of providing normal training for young men and women who desire to prepare themselves for the high and responsible position of a teacher is generally recognized. |
