Show 20 TENTH ANNUAL REPORT ORTHOGRAPHY. Orthography is required of all preparatory students. The aim of this course will be to give the students a thorough understanding of the diacritical marking of words, the use and meaning of prefixes and suffixes, and familiarize them with the spelling and use of all difficult ordinary words. Modern speller and Seventy Lessons in Spelling will be the texts used. W. H. LYON. GRAMMAR. Grammar I.This course will be preparatory to Course II. Composition, analysis, parsing, syntax and punctuation will be taught as the main features of this course. R. T. HAAG. Grammar II.Reed & Kellogg's Higher Lessons in English will used during the first semester. Buehler's Practical lessons in English will be used the last two terms. Students wall be required to read the literature prescribed by the New England College association for 1901. Three Authors are studied in this course. W. H. LYON. GEOGRAPHY, Physical GeographyFive recitations per week during the first half year. This course deals with the physical aspects of the earth. The aim in this course is to lay a good foundation for the study of the natural and the physical sciences. Lectures and recitations. Tarr's Physical Geography is the text used. L. F. MOENCH. Political Geography.Five recitations per week. The aim in this course will be to furnish the students with a thorough knowledge of practical geographical facts, political, phys WEBER STAKE ACADEMY. 21 ical and astronomical, properly coordinated. Frye's Complete Geography is used as a text book, but many books of reference are consulted by teacher and students to furnish graphic pictures of lasting interest to the mind. R. T. HAAG. BOOKKEEPING. The Weber Stake Academy is the only school in Ogden using the famous Ellis Tablet System. Drafts, bills, receipts, notes, checks and all classes of commercial papers are used throughout the year. Single and double entry, banking, stock company and corporation work thoroughly taught. All work is of an actual business character. W. H. LYON. STENOGRAPHY. The system used is that of Isaac Pitman; 97 per cent, of the reporters of the United States use this system or some slight modification of it. A two year's course is offered. The phonographic teacher is read, and Isaac Pitman's Complete Phonographic Instructor with supplementary work completes the course. W. H. LYON. TYPE WRITING. A systematic course of lessons in correspondence, legal, commercial, and other office work will be required of students completing this course. Special arrangements must be made with the instructor by those taking this course. W. H. LYON. THEORY AND PRACTICE OF TEACHING.
