Latin I.The aims in this course are to acquire a correct pronunciation, to master the conjugation of the regular and the more common irregular verbs, to acquire the ability to translate simple English into Latin, and to master a sufficient vocabulary to read Caeser with some ease. Five recitations per week throughout the year. Collar and Daniell's First Latin book. Caeser's Helvetian War and selections from Viri Romae will be required. Required in first year Scientific; elective in Literary. Latin II.Open to those who have completed course 1. Five recitations per week. Four books of Caeser and five orations of Cicero will be read; prose composition. Latin III.Open to those who have completed course II. Three recitations per week. Six books of Virgil will be read; prosody and mythology. ART. R. T. HAAG. DRAWING. Two weekly recitations of one and a half hours each; decorative design and historical ornament of ancient, medieval and modern styles will be taught practically and theoretically with elementary lessons in color. The National Drawing System is used. (Books 6-8.) Original and special work will be introduced as it may be adapted to the student's progress and skill, A fine set of classic casts, original designs and copies, owned by the academy, are used for this purpose. WEBER STAKE ACADEMY. 27 PENMANSHIP. Three recitations per week. Vertical and slanting writing. Besides a thorough drill and practical analysis in these, special calligraphy classes will be organized for the benefit of bookkeeping, students and others. German round hand (round writing,) italic and block letters (use of automatic shading pen,) are special features of this course. VOCAL MUSIC. This class meets twice a week for one and a half hours. Technical instructions in the elements and history of music with an introduction to harmony, will alternate with drill and choral work to prepare for general and special musical exercises of the meetings of the academy. Stephen's Songster, S. S. Song Book, and Stayner's Harmony are used. PHYSICAL SCIENCE, J, G. LIND. PHYSICS. Prescribed in the third year Normal and second year Scientific. Five recitations per week throughout the year. Lectures, recitations and experiments. The subjects of mechanics, sound, light, heat, electricity and magnetism are studied. Apparatus is provided for illustrating the more difficult principles of the subject. Avery's Elementary Physics. During the second half year some advanced text will be used. GENERAL CHEMISTRY. Prescribed in fourth year Normal and second year Scientific. Five recitation per week during the first half year. The object in this course is ta acquire a general knowledge of the science of chemistry. The non-metallic elements are studied |
