The sluggish carriers usually operate with the application of a little oil in between the trigger guard and the receiver at the point where the carrier bears, For future guns I would definitely slightly lengthen the carrier latch stabilizer spring as suggested in one of my recent memos. I would suggest that in the future the packing of the guns be re-examined so as to provide some kind of a brace at or near the trigger guard so that if the carton is dropped, the barrel guide tube will not be bent. By examining our present packing, you will readily see the danger of this. This is also true with the Auto 5 packing. I think you could ship perhaps the first 1,200 insert literature since these guns will doubtless guns be without opening to shipped out small in quantities from St. Louis, and the literature could be inserted there. After that number of guns, however, I would hold up until the literature can be inserted in Belgium. I have given instructions to rush all of the material which you will need to get the literature printed over there. We are sending today some of the 30 guns to sporting editors and newsmen, thus starting the ball rolling. I am, of course, relying on your organize ing over there so that the guns will keep on coming through at least as gooc as the 3 samples sent. You have done an excellent job so far. Love,
