SENDING PACKAGES OVERSEAS? f W S TIME TO GET THEM OFF Postmaster Ed Vendell today issued a reminder that ‘ie deadline for sending Christmas packages overseas comes in November. He said packages going to the Near East and : Africa | should be in the mail by Nov. 1, and parcels to South and Central America and Europe by Nov. 10. Packages addressed to the Far East should be sent immediately, he said: Mr. Vendell said the Postal Department cannot guarantee if delivery by Christmas if gifts are mailed after that date. The reason for the early mail is because of customs in- spections and other formalities parcels may be subjected to in countries of the destinations. | For those who plan to send overseas packages by airmail, they should be sent early ‘in December. Mr. Vendell also urged citizens to wrap packages securely, since they will be handled several times before they reach their destination. The address should be placed inside the package, as well as on the outside, and the postmaster said the address shou be written on the package itself, instead of sticker labe me These, he said, often come off the package. : |
