Show 58 TWO-YEAR PROGRAM IN SECRETARIAL TRAINING The following curriculum is suggested to the student in secretarial training who does not plan to transfer to a senior college or university, but who desires to qualify for the Certificate of Completion. Electives to complete 90 credit hours, exclusive of Physical Education. *A student completing Sec. Tr. 34, 35, 36; 44, 45, 46 during the freshman year may substitute electives for these courses the sophomore year. **Credit hours to be selected from Home Economics 2 (Food Selection), Home Economics 20 (Personal Development), Home Economics 33, (Preparation for Marriage), Home Economics 35 (Child Development), and Home Economics 21 (Clothing the College Girl). SHORT INTENSIVE TRAINING FOR OFFICE POSITIONS The student who does not wish to meet the prescribed recommendations of any business curriculum may concentrate on selected courses that will satisfy his special interests and needs. Training may be received in accounting, office machines, stenography, voice-writing and duplicating machines, typewriting, and related business subjects. 59 COURSES OF INSTRUCTION Stenography *31. Elementary Storthand (Gregg). Introduction to the theory of shorthand. Unless the student has had some typewriting, Secretarial Training 41 must be taken concurrently. Five quarter hours. Autumn, Winter. Henrie **32. Elementary Shorthand (Gregg). A continuation of Secretarial Training 31 with the use of the entire shorthand theory in practice dictation. Shorthand speed of at least 60 words a minute must be attained to receive credit. Five quarter hours. Winter, Spring. Henrie 33. Theory Review, Speed Development, and Transcription. Shorthand speed of at least 80 words a minute must be attained to receive credit. Prerequisite: Secretarial Training 32, 42 or equivalent. Five quarter hours. Autumn, Winter. Henrie 34. Speed Building and Transcription. Speed dictation with stress on fluency and accuracy of writing. Stenographic shortcuts, abbreviations, phrases. Mailable transcripts with emphasis on spelling, punctuation, typing, vocabulary. Shorthand speed of at least 100 words a minute must be attained to receive credit. Prerequisite: Secretarial Training 33, 42, or equivalent. Five quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Henrie 35. Speed Building and Transcription. A continuation of Secretarial Training 34. Shorthand speed of at least 120 words a minute must be attained to receive credit. Five quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Henrie 36. Speed Building and Transcription. A continuation of Secretarial Training 35. Shorthand speed of at least 140 words a minute must be attained to receive credit. Five quarter hours. Winter, Spring. Henrie 38. Hi-Speed Longhand. A method of fast writing based on the English alphabet. Abbreviations, omission and blending of letters. Dictation and transcription. Prerequisite: Secretarial Training 42 or equivalent. Three quarter hours. Spring. (May not be offered.) Henrie *Credit will not be given to students who have had one year previous shorthand training. **Credit will not be given to students who have had two years previous shorthand training. |
