Designed to give a discussion of problems and procedures connected with lathe nomenclature and each basic lathe operation. Mathematics of feeds and speed, thread depth, mating, parts, and calculation of machine setting for tapers are taught. Films, models, charts, and special aids are used. Two to five quarter hours. Advanced lathe operation, advanced machining problems, accurate measuring and machining shaft cuts, machining sequence for saving time, production, habits, etc. Hand tools and bench work are discussed. Design and purpose of milling machine and shaper as production machines, nomenclature, mathematics involved in dividing head work, feeds and speeds. Machining processes of various types on these two machines. Spur gear cutting will be included. Shaper work discussed first. Two to five quarter hours. Spring. Larson 64. Machining Processes. Metal sawing machines, nomenclature, blade selection, theory of sawing, setting and adjustments on machines, contour sawing, filing, polishing and fabricating parts on do-all drill jigs, milling jigs, and fixtures, lathe-fixtures, welded fixtures, tool masters, sheet metal press work. Mathematics and procedures in machining drills, cutters, reamers, spiral gears, bevel gears, and other advanced machine problems. Two to five quarter hours. Winter. Larson 66. Larson SPECIAL MACHINE TOOL PROGRAM The curriculum in Tool Design and Machining Processes prepares the student for employment at Marquardt Aircraft Company after completion of one year's training. The curriculum in General Machinist prepares the student for employment at the Marquardt Aircraft Company after completion of one year's training. These training programs are in cooperation with the Marquardt Aircraft Company. Anyone wishing to enter either of the two programs must file application at the Weber College Registrar's Office. Applicant is also required to take tests given at the State Employment Office, plus a physical examination.
