Show TRANSIT popular, fast ski-slope at snow basin. looking toward mount ogden. MOUNTAIN WINTER IN a setting of Alpine grandeur, almost within sight of the campus, the United States Forest Service has created the Snow Basin recreation area where students travel each week-end (gas-rationing permitting) to ski and hike. With a modern ski-tow operating and with a warm shelter constructed, much of the discomfort of unorganized winter sports activities has been eliminated. unbroken trails and exquisite scenery combine to lure enthusiasts mountain-ward. gentle slopes enable beginners to practice before attempting the more difficult "runs." 2 WINTER, 1943 Sport the "downhill slalom" is one of the more difficult tests of the skier's SKILL and courage. Photos by U. S. Forest Service but the "slalom" is not confined to men only. here an intrepid female negotiates the tricky course. 3 |
