Professor of Dramatic Art and Public Speaking Introductory Course 1 is required of all students in the first quarter of residence. Course 2 is required of all students in the second or third quarter of residence. All other courses in the department are elective. COURSES Courses in Rhetoric and English Composition English 1. Composition and Rhetoric. A detailed study of the principles of rhetoric is made, and a high standard of theme work is demanded. Illustrative reading assignments are made from a wide range of modern literature. Required of each student in his first quarter of residence. Daily. Autumn, Winter, or Spring quarters. Five credit hours. Prof. Read, Prof. Myers, Prof. . English 2. Composition and Rhetoric. A continuation of English 1, with special emphasis on the forms and models of prose literature. The written work consists of a number of short themes of 100 to 200 words each, and four long themes of 1500 to 3000 words each. Required |
