Show LETRS based spelling curriculum 70 First Grade Review: Short Vowels CVC words Spelling List: a e i o u cat set hit pot cut fan ten rip cop bun Day 1 Introduction to CVC (5 minutes):Vowels most oftenmake the short sound when it is closed by a consonant. Today we will be working with CVC words which means consonant vowel consonant words. Remember vowels are a, e, i, o, u. Consonants are the rest of the alphabet. The short vowel sounds are a=ă e=ĕ i= ĭ o=ŏ u=ŭ When we spell words with a consonant, vowe, consonant, the vowel usually has the short sound. This week we will be spelling words with the five short vowels: a, e, i, o, and u. Watch this video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7ClQc_4Txg onsonants and Vowels (5 minutes):Students will colorcode the C consonants and vowels for each spelling word. They will need a black and red writing tool. The teacher will guide the students on the whiteboard or smartboard with corresponding colored writing tools. Students will do this on the 3x5 Word Sort table found in the resources. Have students write consonants in black and vowels in red on the table. On the first column write the vowel a and under that write the words cat and fan. On the second column write e and under that write the words set and ten. On the third column write i and under that write the words hit and rip. On the fourth column write o and under that write the words pot and cop. On the fifth column write u and under that write the words cut and bun.
