Show LETRS based spelling curriculum 139 rossword Puzzle (5 minutes):Do the long o:oa crossword puzzle on the C smartboard or on a worksheet together in a small group. pelling dictation (2 minutes):The teacher will saythe following sentence S out loud and the students will write it down. The students will spell the best to their abilities, including the correct capitalization and punctuation. Afterwards the teacher will write the sentence on the board. The students will correct any mistakes they made, including capitalization and punctuation with a different colored pen. “Mom used the hoe to plant a row of seeds.” Day 3 S ort pictures & words into the correct vowel team sort (5 minutes): We are only focussing on nine spelling words that have the oa, ow and oe but there are many more words. Let's sort the pictures & words. Pictures help students to connect words with meaning. Unfortunately there is no rule to distinguish if words should be spelled with an oa, ow and oe. Exposure to the words in our reading and writing helps. Have students highlight, circle or underline the spelling words they used. Students may illustrate a quick picture for each of their sentences. Have students share their sentences and illustrations with a partner. I spy with the Long e Word list (5 minutes):Havestudents play an I spy game with the long o: oa, ow, oe word list from the Spelling Dictionary. For example: I spy a thing on someone's foot. Answer: toe. Students may do this in partners or small groups. The teacher and students may go over all the words on the list before the game.
