Front: Seth Panel. Talked STATE SPEECH MEET—At the state speech meets on April 16 and 17 Arvin Shreeves and Seth Blair received the grand trophy in debate after completing ten rounds undefeated. Last year the trophy was won by Dee Ward Hock i | and | place in oratory. Ata special assembly on April 23 the trophies and medals were awarded the winners, and many special guests were present. Mr. C. S. Graves, the speech teacher, deserves much praise for so successfully directing the Forensic activities at Weber this year. Paul Smith, also of Weber. Curtis Gardner placed second in Panel Discussion, and Arvin Shreeve took second SOPHOMORE SPEECH CONTEST—The Sophomores held their annual Speech Festival on April 20th. Tenth grades from all the county schools were represented. The representatives from Weber were—Short story: Joy Ann Shurtliff and alternate, Darwin Creeze. Dramatic reading: Elain Poulson and alternate Darlene Watts. Pantomime: Jack Eilander and alternate James Cox. The Huntsville school took first place in the contest, and Weber placed second. JUNIOR SPEECH CONTEST—The annual Junior Speech Contest was held April 27, with Mr. Graves, Mr. Dabb, and Mrs. Blayney doing the advising. Contestants were chosen from each English C class and were judged by Speech ll students. Winners were, Debate: Phyllis Johnson and Ramona Poulson, Poetry: Elna Dawn Kirk, Short Story: Gwen Slater, Oratory: Hyrum Oaks, and Panel Discussion: Roy Silar. [poe | | |
