Show FOOTBALL 52 Favorable aspects for the 1953 football season, now that 1952 is behind as a so-so record, begin with the new stadium awaiting only a few additions to the utilities before kickoff time next September. The night for the opening could be September 18, with San Diego Junior College. Thinking of the coaching staff is along this line, reported the football mentor, Milton Mecham. In 1952 Weber came out on the short end of a five-game conference series by winning two and losing three. Winning all conference games, Boise Junior College again took the Intermountain Collegiate Athletic Conference. Weber defeated Carbon College and Branch Agricultural College. Weber played four non-conference games and had the luck of losing all of them. Rock-like in his loyalty, as always, Mentor Mecham pointed out the spirit of his fleet-footed but lightweight team. "I have never coached a team that tried harder or came closer to winning the championship," he commented. "The team lacked only one touchdown, and this was typical of nearly all games we played except the two we won." Barnes has turned the play "in" and is down in devout all-fours pose. Shaw (30) glares at ball carrier as the Wildcat star digs to a halt before plunging in for the tackle. Cologna (34) slants to the left just in case. Brown slants to the right, and his killer puss says blood will flow whether or no. Opposition is Mountain Home Air Force Base pilots, Idaho.
