Show J. REX BACHMAN Chairman Citizens Committee On Weber College Expansion The Citizens Committee on Weber College Expansion is made up of approximately 100 public spirited citizens of Box Elder, Davis, Morgan and Weber Counties, and has as its objective the expansion of Weber College into a limited four-year institution. This committee has been in existence for about two years and through its efforts has procured a new campus for Weber which is but a start on the expansion program. For Weber to become a four-year institution legislative approval is necessary and as the 1949 legislature will soon be in session plans are now being laid to promote the necessary action. As you look about you tonight you can se the crying need of a proper stadium in which to hold school functions where adequate modern facilities will be provided and where the atmosphere does not reek of the barnyard and other assorted odors. As you pass by the present campus and observe the crowded, inadequate conditions surrounding the students, you will agree with us that expansion is sorely needed. Why not take a look at the new campus lying east of Harrison Boulevard between 37th and 40th Streets and then use your efforts to make a four-year college a reality. By J. R. BACHMAN FIRST DOWNS FOR THE HOME SCHOOL . . . Folks of Ogden and surrounding counties have run interference for Weber college for sixty years. They have responded to the referee's whistle season in and season out and have engineered many touchdowns in more than half a century. At times it has been breaking through against a line like a brick wall, often there has been plenty of broken field running, and occasionally the school has been tackled cold. Yet with a change of pace from year to year, plenty of yardage has been stacked up for the old alma mater. Speaking of the all-out team that makes up the student body of the home school, its total membership tells the story of the straightaway march down the field in the last decade. The Weber student body in the last ten years has increased more than 500% and the largest freshman class in the history of the college registered this fall. Early next year Weber college boosters and alumni will try a line plunge for a four-year college for Ogden and they will try to kick the extra point and obtain additional funds for the new campus. We all know that the team will be in there fighting but in order to win, they will need the grandstands full of cheering boosters from the Ogden area.
