Show Weber "Brain Trust" in action - - - Coaches Ward, Mecham, Gardner "That's his agentl" Coach Jackson Jewkes Of Carbon Junior College Coach Jewkes began his football career early in life by lettering for Carbon high school in 1935. He was a three-year letterman for the Brighara Young University and graduated from the Provo college in 1939. In 1941 he assumed head coaching duties at Carbon College and he served in that capacity until 1944, when he was called to active duty with the U. S. Army. Because of a bad football knee, Jewkes was discharged in 1945 and returned to Carbon. Coach Jewkes is starting his eighth year at Carbon. Six of Coach Jewkes' starting men are men with previous experience. Last year Carbon entrenched itself in Mountain States J. C. football by copping the Intermountain Junior College football title. This trick was turned by defeating the Branch Aggies, of Cedar City; Snow College of Ephraim; Dixie College of St. George; Mesa College of Grand Junction, Colorado; Idaho College of Education from Albion, Idaho; and Fort Lewis Junior College of Colorado. Carbon suffered only two defeats last season. One of them was in a non-league postseason game with Mesa and the other was to the undefeated Boise eleven of Boise, Idaho.
