Show ARVILLA PARRY STANLEY RHEES JOHN CROFT Vice President President Secretary and Treasurer THE SOPHOMORE CLASS feels proud of their record at dear old Weber during the year '17-'18. We feel that we have progressed far beyond our fondest hopes, that we have passed an important mile- post of accomplishment during our sojourn here. Monday, October 30, 1917, saw the beginning of numerous parties, socials, dances, etc., given by the Class of '20. That night we journeyed to Taylor's Canyon for a bonfire party, and we had some time. We spent the evening in having the time of our lives, singing and telling ghost stories to the girls. The class gave two dances. The first was a Thanksgiving dance, and the other was the best matinee of the year. Both proved to be financially as well as socially successful. We held our class party January 11th in the Fine Arts room. We spent part of the time in dancing and the remainder in some live games that Professor Young introduced. The way the punch disappeared showed that some of the fellows were getting rather dry. In school activities the Sophs have made a creditable showing. We won third place in extempo and second in debating. We are proud of our debating stars, Brown and Kasius. They won the unanimous decision of the judges in debate with the Freshies, and though they were defeated by the Juniors we feel honored to have such fellows represent us. Our class showed a great deal of interest in the debates and the extempo contests. When the Acorn went to press the Sophomores were working hard to make the class play, "Hicks at College," a huge success. It was a three-act comedy-drama of college life at Northern University. The leading parts were taken by John Croft as Hicks, Stanley Rhees as Tom Horton, Clifford Doxey as Fritz Jordan and Ida Scowcroft and Gay Miller as June and Flora, respectively. |
