Biographical/Historical Note A 41 day, 5500 mile Weber College geology bus field trip of western North America from June 17-July 26, 1946. The trip went to UT, AZ, Nevada, CA, OR, WA, British Columbia (Canada), Alberta (Canada), MT, and ID. The trip included a visit to ten national parks (in 1946): Bryce, Zion, Yosemite, Lassen, Crater Lake, Rainier, Glacier, Waterton Lakes (Canada), Yellowstone, and Grand Teton. The total trip cost was less than $150. This was the first of the "College on Wheels" trips developed by Dr. Walter Buss whose dream it was to teach from a bus window. A slide projector and textbooks were used for course materials. Students camped outside and cooked over an open fire to keep the cost of the trip low. They received mail at different cities they stopped in during the trip. Images were taken from the scrapbooks of Jacquline Allen.
