Biographical/Historical Note |
This was part of the "College on Wheels" summer course, a six week 6000 mile trip July 19-August 30, 1947. Pre-trip courses that were offered but not required were Spanish 1 by Mr. Handcock, Geology 1 by Walter Buss, Biology 1 and mammals of Utah by Dr. Russ Hardy. The class took a route south through Bryce Canyon, Zion, the Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, White Sands, and Carlsbad Caverns before crossing into Mexico at Laredo, Texas. Highlights included a bull fight, Monterrey, Guadalajara, the floating gardens of Xochimilco and Mexcio City. To save on costs the class camped and did their own cooking. Tutition was $27.50-$37.50 dependong on spring quarter registration with a total cost about $200. Two buses took students with a car that helped get supplies and repairs when the buses broke down. |
