Description Throughout the history of Weber State, students and faculty were known to go on memorial hikes and travel to different locations during the summer semester on field trips. The Geology department was famous for putting together fascinating field trips to many different locations. This exhibit provides images from 1898-1963.

The Geology department was famous for putting together fascinating field trips to many different locations. This exhibit provides images from 1898-1963.
Biographical/Historical Note This was part of the "College on Wheels" summer course, a six week 6000 mile trip July 19-August 30, 1947. Pre-trip courses that were offered but not required were Spanish 1 by Mr. Handcock, Geology 1 by Walter Buss, Biology 1 and mammals of Utah by Dr. Russ Hardy. The class took a route south through Bryce Canyon, Zion, the Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, White Sands, and Carlsbad Caverns before crossing into Mexico at Laredo, Texas. Highlights included a bull fight, Monterrey, Guadalajara, the floating gardens of Xochimilco and Mexcio City. To save on costs the class camped and did their own cooking. Tutition was $27.50-$37.50 dependong on spring quarter registration with a total cost about $200. Two buses took students with a car that helped get supplies and repairs when the buses broke down.
